What are the general requirements for graduation?
Requirements for the degree:
- Completion of the Official Program of Study with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
- Completion of the clinical experience requirements.
- Completion of a Masters project (CSP 710A).
- Completion of a personal theory of therapy and personal integration paper (CSP 710B).
- Completion of a simulated licensing exam (CSP 710B).
- Completion of 500 clinical hours of experience plus 100 hours of supervision as defined by COAMFTE standards.
- Becoming an MFT involves growth through educational coursework, clinical experience, exploration of self and others' worlds, and development of a professional identity and commitment. We expect our students to be open to exploring all of these dimensions of professional development.
- Successful completion of the MFT program requires at least a 40 hour commitment per week during the fall and spring semesters in the first and second year. It is extremely stressful and difficult to participate in full-time employment as well as completing all of the requirements of the program. Faculty request that trainees do not attempt full-time employment when completing the degree in the first two years during the fall and spring semesters.
- Complete 12 sessions of personal psychotherapy prior to graduation.
- Obtain membership in the professional organizations of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the California Division of AAMFT (AAMFT-CA) and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).
- Obtain Professional Liability Insurance.
- Be prepared to participate in coursework and clinical training on a year round basis.
- Purchase a MFT Program Manual.
- Follow the AAMFT and CAMFT Codes of Ethics.
- Arrange for an e-mail account.
