Hypothesis testing

 You have many options for testing a hypothesis. For the following hypotheses, select the most appropriate testing procedure. Be prepared to justify your choice, stating the dependent variable and independent variable(s). Your choices include:

  • t-test for independent groups;
  • t-test for dependent means;
  • ANOVA;
  • Scheffé test;
  • factorial analysis of variance;
  • ANCOVA;
  • multiple regression;
  • chi square.

 

  1. The differences between trainee scores on the training assessment instrument given to Monday morning groups and Wednesday morning groups, both of which were lead by the same trainer, can be attributed to chance.

  2. Among the independent variables of years of work experience, level of education, IQ, and GRE score, only the addition of IQ improves the use of GPA as a predictor of success in the doctoral program.
