Policies and Procedures |
Students in EDTEC 532 are expected to:
- Attend and ACTIVELY participate in scheduled classes and related events. Please be on time for class - latecomers distract us, as do students who leave class early. Attendance and participation points will strongly reflect such occurrences,
- When you arrive in class, you must send the instructor an email to dritchie@mail.sdsu.edu announce your arrival and indicate the time that you have arrived in class,
- Spend at least 3 hours for each class session in the Instructional Media Lab to complete class assignments. It is not realistic to expect that you can complete your production assignments in class sessions. Working in the lab is a necessary part of this course,
- When you arrive in IML, or work on a computer of your choice, you must send the instructor an email to dritchie@mail.sdsu.edu to announce your arrival in the lab, or commencement of your work, indicate the time that you have started working, and list the tasks that you intend to complete,
- When you complete your work in IML, on a computer of your choice, you must send the instructor an email to dritchie@mail.sdsu.edu to list the tasks that you completed in your lab session, and indicate the time that you have stopped working on assignments.
- Begin preparation for assignments in advance of the due dates,
- Complete readings and projects by the dates indicated on the Calendar,
- Turn off cell phones and/or pagers prior to the start of class. They are very annoying to everyone else in the class. If you must have your cell phones and/or pagers on please turn them to vibrate,
- Be respectful to others in class, especially those who learn technology a bit slower than you.
Each scheduled class period will be devoted to presentation, demonstration, practice, and discussion, of instructional design and media production procedures. Additional practice and project production will take place in the IML, or on another computer of your choosing. In addition to class sessions, you should plan to spend at least 3 hours per week working on your assignments in the IML or on another computer.
Project Submission: No hand written assignments will be accepted; all assignments are to be generated on a computer and uploaded to ROHAN server. Assignments are due at the beginning of each class session as specified in this syllabus. Media production is a continuous and systematic effort. Meeting deadlines is an essential factor in maintaining professional relationships. Late projects receive a 10% reduction for each week between the original due date and the actual date the project is submitted.
Assessment: In-class activities, discussion, group work, and demonstrations are important for applying educational technology concepts and methods and will contribute to your course participation grade. Please be on time for class. Latecomers are distracting to all of us. Consequently, every class session missed results in 2 points being deducted from your grade. When you arrive in class, you must send the instructor an email to dritchie@mail.sdsu.edu announce your arrival and indicate the time that you have arrived in class. One absence is allowed without points being deducted. In addition, 15 points of your grade will be based on your participation in class activities.
Points are credited to each assignment based on effort and level of completion, creativity/originality and technical proficiency. Assignments turned in late will receive only half credit.
You are encouraged to consult with the instructor throughout the semester. Many problems can be solved over the telephone or by email. This is particularly true if you spend a few minutes to organize your thoughts and write out a brief agenda to make the most efficient use of time. Formal consultations with the instructor will take place several times during the semester, often during class. At these times we will discuss your projects, review progress, and solve specific problems. You must come to these formal sessions with an agenda for discussion. The agenda should include any problem that you have encountered in your assignments for which you need help.
