Now is a good time to tell you about our admissions process. Before the faculty can review your application for admission, we must have the following information on file:

You need to have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to download all application materials. To obtain Adobe Acrobat, go to http://www.adobe.com. You may also view the Department of Educational Technology brochure (90K) for further information.

For those interested in the Master's degree in Educational Technology we need

Step 1:

1. Your completed University application. The University application is available on line at http://www.csumentor.edu/admissionapp/. There is a $55 fee to process your application. The deadline for Spring 2004 is November 1, 2004, deadline for Summer 2004 is April 1, 2004 and the deadline for Fall 2004 is May 1, 2004. The graduate bulletin provides procedural steps towards earning a Master's degree. You can also download and view the Graduate application (52k). Once downloaded and printed, you can submit the graduate application for processing. Send graduate application to:

Graduate Admissions, SDSU
5500 Campanile Dr.
San Diego, CA 92182

Step 2: Assemble one complete admissions packet, which should include the following:

1. Two sets of original and official transcripts in sealed envelopes from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended. This would include all degree transcripts and a transcript from the last institution attended. Your transcripts must reflect the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted.

Students with international coursework must submit all official transcripts and proofs of degree. If certificates and transcripts are not in English, they should be accompanied by certified English translations.

2. Completed Department application (41K) (with personal statement attached) and three letters of recommendation (67K). Letters of reference should be given back to you in a sealed envelope and submitted together with packet. Letters of recommendation should come from professionals who can attest to your promise as a graduate student and professional educator.

3. GRE scores (Typically, we expect students to receive total scores of 950 or above on the verbal and quantitative parts of the test and a 4.5 on the analytical). For information about the GRE, call 609/771-7670. Scores are to be sent directly to SDSU from the Educational Testing Service. The correct institution number for SDSU is 4682. Applicants can take the GRE at GRE test centers throughout the United Sates and in other locations. San Diego State University is a GRE test center. Please contact SDSU's test office at 594-0968 for more information. In San Diego, Prometric Testing Services offers computerized version of the GRE Tests. The location is

Prometric Testing Center
6755 Mira Mesa Blvd.
Sorrento Plaza, Suite 136
San Diego, California 92121

4. Starting October 2002, the GRE Writing Assessment Exam will be given in the Analytical portion of the GRE. However, we still require students to demonstrate writing proficiency before being admitted to our department. If you've taken the GRE before October 2002, we will still accept those scores but you will have to take our department writing exam. Exam will only be administered after your admissions packet has been received. Once you have submitted your application materials, ou can sign up by sending Elsa Tapia an email at etapi@mail.sdsu.edu and request to take the department writing exam. At that time, arrangements will be made to take the exam. You will be notified in approximately two weeks the results of the test. A passing score of 4.5 out of 6. You have 2.5 hours to complete the exam. The exam will not be proctored. We ask that you do not seek assistance from others during this exam. We expect all prospective Master candidates to honor this request. However, you can use resources such as the internet and a dictionary. Your writing test will be placed in your permanent file. Here is a sample writing exam for you to view.

The completed application packet should be returned to:

SDSU, Department of Educational Technology (Campus program)
5500 Campanile Dr.
San Diego, CA 92182-1182

Note: An Incomplete packet will delay the admissions process.
