Instructional Technology Certificate

To receive a certificate in Instructional Technology, candidates must complete the following 15 units of coursework:

EDTEC 540, Educational Technology
EDTEC 541, Web Multimedia Development
EDTEC 544, Instructional Design

and 6 units selected from:
EDTEC 561, Adv. Web Multimedia Development
EDTEC 570, Adv. Teaching with Technology
EDTEC 572, Technology for Course Delivery
EDTEC 590, Evaluation Techniques for the Performance Technologist

Registration and Application Procedures

You do not need to apply to the department or submit reference letters for the IT certificate if you regsiter through Open University. Open university means that you cannot pre-register for the course and must "crash" the course. You need to show up on the first day of class and if the instructor has room, he/she will sign your open university form. Youwill need to secure an open university form prior to the first day of class. Open university forms are available at the College of Extended Studies. Currently, the cost for open university classes is $591. Fees are subject to change. However, to pre-register for courses, you will need to apply to the university and to the department (department application and three letters of reference). Application materials can be viewed and downloaded. The GRE is not required for the IT certificate. Masters Degree

Once you complete the requirements for the Instructional Technology certificate and are thinking about the Masters degree, you can receive the certificate and have 9 units of the coursework count towards the MA. EDTEC 540 and 541 do not count, however both are required.
