The O'Farrell Community School
Music Program
The O'Farrell music program was created four years ago. It has evolved
into a high-powered, successful and diverse music program which enrolls over
200 sixth through eighth grade students.
Courses
- Beginning and Advanced Choir
- Beginning and Advanced Band
- Beginning and Advanced Orchestra
Requirements
- Students enrolled in advanced classes must have at least one year
or more of playing experience.
- Beginning classes do not require any previous experience.
Music Director
Jackie Crump-Pace is a graduate of the San Diego State University
teacher education program. Last year Mrs. Crump-Pace was named one of the 100
Most Outstanding African-American Women in San Diego. With over 17 years of
teaching experience in the San Diego Unified School District, she brings a
wealth of knowledge and presents a variety of literature to her students, including:
- Folk Songs
- Spirituals
- Contemporary Hits
- Classical Literature
Performances
The students present two site-based community-orientated concerts each
year. In addition, many students participate in the All City Honor Band and
Choir as well as other outside performance groups.

Support
As a charter School, O'Farrell has many demands and directions in
which their finances must be divided. This year, O'Farrell had no site music
budget. The program is now self funded through the support of parent and
student fund raisers.
