Peace Corps Week
All Year Long
Speak About Your Service
ANYTIME during the year!

Liz Brown speaks to a classroom of Girl Scouts

Although Peace Corps Week (first week in March) is the official time to celebrate promoting a better understanding of other cultures, we can get into the community, share our experiences, and open up the world, one speaking engagement at a time throughout the whole year!

Speak to students at Peace Corps Information Meetings, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, schools and groups throughout San Diego County, and more...

Up-coming Speakers Needed!
(see also in Bulletin Board under Connections)

Some guidelines for possible presentations:

  • Speakers can present the culture of their host country
  • Presentations can be as interactive as possible:
    • photos,
    • local foods
    • clothing
    • fabrics,
    • national music, etc.
  • Speakers can have a frank discussion with the students and answer questions about what some of the country's/community's real needs are.
  • Students can work on some sort of service project tied to your presentation. The teacher or leader of the group you present to would coordinate such an activity.
    • Teacher/group have contacted group(s) of children in a presenter's country of service to communicate or receive/exchange these packs although that's not required.
    • The children have made little "Peace Packs," knapsacks with their handprints in paint, a note of peace, and some school supplies and basic dental hygience stuff and send them to the country they learned about.
    • It's always really fun, and the kids are super curious.

If you are an RPCV and would like to share your experiences:

  • Contact Tracy Addis, Speaker Chair,
-- To help you find where you can speak and
    -- To help you prepare.
  • Contact http://www.peacecorps.gov/wws/speakersmatch/
    -- List yourself and
-- Find places near you that want speakers.
    .
  • Contact PC Wasington to get a Presenter's Kit to help your presentation -- To register online to receive the free kit at https://www.peacecorps.gov/rpcv/peacecorpsday/register/index.cfm?&
    .
  • Afterward... Let Liz Brown, Newsletter Editor–know about your presentation
    -- Submit pictures
-- See yourself listed here and in Pacific Waves.
