The Department of Special Education is committed to making a difference for people with disabilities and their families by increasing their success in schools, workplaces, and community settings. We train the teachers that make that difference. Whether you are thinking of becoming a teacher, specializing with a Master's, or culminating your studies with a doctorate, the department of special education can help you realize your goals.

Programs That Make a Difference

The Department of Special Education offers Level I and II credentials, master's, and doctorates in three emphasis areas:
Early Childhood: For students interested in working with students birth through age five.
Mild/ Moderate: For students interested in working with children with mild to moderate disabilities.
Moderate/Severe: For students interested in working with children with moderate to severe disabilities

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must meet general university requirements for graduate admission including a bachelor's degree and 3.00 grade point average (GPA). In addition, applicants must submit a formal department application including a statement of professional goals and experience, resume, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and test results.

Applicants must submit passing scores for the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST), the CSET, and the RICA, and have interest in working with special populations. Find out more...
