Advanced Certificate in Behavior Analysis
The Department of Special Education at SDSU offers programs with course approval for the BCBA and BCaBA. Coursework is offered for individuals seeking both levels of certification. Coursework for the BCaBA (Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst) consists of 9 credit hours (3 classes). These classes can be completed over a 1 year period. Students interested in BCaBA coursework also have the option of applying to our Advanced Certificate in Behavior Analysis program (see application link below). This consists of 12 credit hours (4 classes, 3 of which comprise BCaBA coursework). Coursework for the BCBA consists of 16 credit hours (7 courses). This coursework can be completed in a 1 year period, but most individuals complete it over a 2 year period. Individuals interested in completing BCBA coursework should already hold an MA/Ph.D. OR should be concurrently enrolled in a graduate program at SDSU or elsewhere.
It must be noted that the programs at SDSU only provide the coursework for the BCaBA and BCBA. In order to be eligible to sit for the BCBA/BCaBA exam and become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst fieldwork is also required (1000 hrs for BCaBA and 1500 for BCBA). Students must make their own arrangements for fieldwork and supervision (see the BACB website for registry of certified supervisors in your area).
Please see links below for more information on our BCBA/BCaBA programs and an application to the SDSU Advanced ABA certificate program.
