Student Teacher at Samuel F. B. Morse High School
Background
I was born in San Diego in 1963. My family moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1980 where I reluctantly completed my senior year of high school. Not wanting to begin college right away, I left Florida for Wyoming in 1982 and lived and worked in Yellowstone Park for the remainder of the year. In January of 1983 I began my first year of college at Saint Leo College located in the rural town of Saint Leo, Florida. Two years later I transferred to Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida and entered the fledgling Communications program with a major in Public Relations. Due to financial difficulties I was unable to complete my education, and in 1987 returned to Fort Myers. I had earned my substitute teaching credential in 1986, and upon returning to Fort Myers, resumed teaching at Fort Myers High School, my alma mater. Many years passed, and once again I found myself in San Diego. I enrolled at SDSU and began classes to complete my B.A. in English which I earned in 1997. While a student at SDSU, I was employed as both a tutor in a 92A class and tutor/student assistant in the DSS High-Tech Center. Those two jobs, combined with the substitute teaching experience, have given me an excellent foundation on which to build a career in teaching. Currently, I am in the Single Subject Credential Program (English) at SDSU, and student teaching at Morse High School.
Interests, Activities, & Plans
I am interested in completing my student teaching at Morse High and securing a position as a teacher at a local high school. I want to work!!!! Although I am an advocate for education and have thoroughly enjoyed my years as a student, I am anxious to begin working.
Other Interesting Things
I enjoy reading, going to plays, Balboa Park, or the ocean at twilight. I write poems and stories and watch way too much T.V. I enjoy my private time, and will do things alone like shopping, walking, and working out. I also volunteer free time (which is at a premium now) at the Blind Recreation Center working with youths.
