Objective:
For the student to understand that to excel, they must train to better themselves. The students will get an idea of what the basics of athletic training entail.
Procedure:
Introduce the topic of training to the students. Tell of the importance of nutrition and practice. Encourage them that practice may not actually make them perfect, but it will make them better. Explain the predominant ways of training found today. Define and discuss frequency, intensity, and rest. Have an Olympic athlete come in and talk to the students about their own training regimen and goals. Save some time for the students to ask the guest questions.
Closure:
Give the homework assignment: If the students could compete in one Olympic event what would it be? Have them write one page on the event they would choose as well as how they would train for the event. They must include the mode of exercise, nutrition, frequency, and intensity. Due the next day.
