Day Five Lesson Plan

The design competition introduced in this lesson will give students a chance to apply their knowledge of physics to a real world challenge, in ways that may be similar to what they saw in the development of olympic sports. This activity is intended to encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving.

Objectives

• Students will work collaboratively to apply what they know about physics to a real design challenge.

Procedures

The teacher will introduce the competition and direct students to the explanation of the rules in Day Five of the Physics portion of this unit. The teacher may want to showcase an winning entries from previous years, but encourage creative approaches and originality.

Closure

The actual competition will be held on the day assigned in advance. Students will complete a report as outlined in the Day Five assignment page.
