When ClarisWorks Assistant is presented during lecture, consider how you might use it to make signs in your current or future classroom. Signs might be informational (a set of "do's and don'ts") or instructional (a spelling rule or a mathematics formula). In this assignment, we want you to inform the students' parents about your semester project. |

Know that you can also use a more specific program such as Broderbund's PrintShop or Companion or Certificate Maker to make your project. Most school have at least one or two copies of these&endash;it's just a matter of finding who has the program. Plan ahead as to what you want your product to look like. Access ClarisWorks on your computer. When you choose to create a new file, access the Assistants and Stationary check box. Open the "Certificate" assistant and complete the questions. After the final step is complete, manipulate the design to ensure the material is appropriate to your school and subject domain. |

Sign your name on the back, and identify the grade for which your sign is being created. |

The one-page announcement should be neat and conceptually clear. The purpose of the sign should be evident. The layout should be such that text and visuals can be easily understood and should not overlap. The page should be properly printed, esthetically pleasing, and include color (colored pencils work well). Graphics should accentuate the message. Be careful not to make the announcement too cluttered. View the school announcement rubric or more information on the grading of this project. |
