Using Filters Note: When you are done with this module, simply close this window to return to the module.
PurposeFilters automatically carry out many of the functions of your Eudora software, such as transferring all messages from a class to a mailbox,replying to requests for information, or labeling all your messages from a set of colleagues as "hot."
Accessing the filter optionStep 1: Select "Special" from the menu bar
Step 2: Pull down and release on "Filters". (Note: A mailbox must be created before you can filter messages. If you do not have a mailbox, refer to the mailbox job aid to create one).
Creating a filterStep 1: Select the "New" button. (Note: A filter named "Untitled" will appear in the left box).
Identifying the field to filterStep 1: Click in the "Header" field
Step 2: Pull down to "<<Any Header>>"
Setting the filter criteria (Part 1)Step 1: Click in the "Contains" field
Step 2: Pull down and release on "starts with"
Setting the filter criteria (Part 2)Step 1: Enter the nickname you gave your class.
Establishing the action of the filter (Part 1)Step 1: Under "Actions" pull down and release on "Transfer To"
(Note: The following dialog box will appear).
Establishing the action of the filter (Part 2)Step 1: Select the class mailbox from the "Transfer" menu.
Check filterStep 1: Verify the conditions are set up to properly filter your messages. (Note: the following dialog box will appear showing the choices made)
(Note: When a message is received with the filtered criteria in the "To:", "From:", or "Subject:" box, the message will be sent to the specified mailbox).
Additional optionsIn addition to the example shown which used <any header>, you can filter messages according to who sent the message, the date, the subject name, or any other set of criteria shown in Step 3 and 4.
In addition to transferring, you can have the message play a sound, be forwarded, or any of the other options as shown in this job aid. You can also have multiple actions taken on any message, such as being stored in a mailbox, then sent to a group of students. This is explained further in the listserv job aid.
