A Newly-Connected Universe of Possibilities

As you read this, millions of people are thinking about how they will participate in online communities of learning, commerce, and artistic expression. Some of them will become your students or colleagues; others may serve as your guides or mentors. The intersection of the CSU, the world's largest and most diverse university system with the world's largest computer network, the internet, suggests a staggering array of possibilities. But Module 5 focuses on personal issues: the role of the individual professor as manager of learning opportunities in a newly-connected universe. T3 takes you on a cook's tour of two course websites and asks the professors who developed these websites to speak personally and frankly about the challenges and rewards of using online technology to add value to their CSU teaching. We present some suggestions for course development and management and we challenge you to formulate some directions that you would like to pursue in the near future. Then we ask you to solidify the commitment you made to mentor colleagues in online teaching and learning. Finally, we leave you with some pointers and additional tools for establishing your presence in the online world. |
