Integrated Marine Science Teacher, Rancho Buena Vista High School

Graduate Student, Department of Education Technology, San Diego State University

Background

I grew up in Huntington Beach, California with my parents and younger brother, Ryan. After graduating from Marina High School I attended UC San Diego. I majored in Biology and completed two minors, in Psychology and Teacher Education. My interests in children, science, and psychology led me to pursue a career as a science teacher. After graduation I attended the Teacher Education Program at UCSD to become a Science Teacher. I was an Intern Teacher at at Washington Middle School in Vista. After receiving my teaching credential I taught science and math at Washington Middle School. Currently I am teaching Marine Science at Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista Unified School District. I teach a few sections of Sheltered Marine Science, and love working with language development students.

Interests, Activities & Plans

I enjoy teaching Marine Science at RBVHS. I have always loved the ocean and many types of aquatic animals. My favorite animal is the penguin. I feel very lucky to have found a career that involves so many of my interests. I am pursuing a Master's in Education Technology. I would like to learn more about technology and how to utilize it in my classroom. Creating multimedia and web pages have been valuable experiences for me. I created a Marine Mammal Internet Project in EdTec 572. Teaching this project was an interesting and rewarding experience, many of my students created web pages about marine mammals.

I am working at SDSU as a Graduate Assistant with Bernie Dodge on the Triton Project, for the summer 1997. I am part of the training team and designed modules for the Triton Summer Symposium, three weeks of workshops for K-12 teachers training them to use technology and create web based lessons with an ocean theme.

I am excited about an upcoming opportunity to live in New Zealand for one year. My husband is a senior programmer with Epic Solutions. He is going to be lead engineer on a project that will put his company's jail management and booking computer systems in the entire county of New Zealand. We will be living in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.

Other Interesting Things

I was recently married, on March 22, 1997. Here are some pictures from my wedding...
