Credential Processing
For credential candidates other than those pursuing Internship Credentials, application materials for evaluation and recommendation for your credentials should be submitted while you are enrolled in your last semester of coursework required to complete your credential program in order to assure timely processing. Applications for Internship Credentials should be submitted at least one month in advance of the starting date of employment. Please note that, if recommendation for your credential requires successful completion of a master’s degree (Administrative Services, Speech Language Pathology Services), you must also submit an application for graduation (this is available from the Graduate Affairs and Research Division website with the links to “Current Students” and “Forms” at http://gra.sdsu.edu/index.html).
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing requires (1) universities to submit recommendations and supporting documentation on-line and (2) credential candidates to complete the fee payment process on-line, using a credit card for payment. Spam filters for certain accounts (AOL, Road Runner, and Netscape) block delivery of CTC email correspondence and cannot be used in this process. If you have one of these accounts, please create a Hotmail, Yahoo, or other free account so that you will be able to complete the process.
This complete packet should be downloaded from the links below, completed, and submitted with the documentation specifically requested unless you have already provided that information to the College of Education Office of Student Services for another credential recommendation within the previous five years (although it may be on file in another office, our staff do NOT have access to records from those files yet still need this information in order to respond to your request for evaluation). Applications WILL NOT be accepted without designated documentation.
• Outstanding transcripts from other institutions must be official but do not
not need to be in sealed envelopes; they must not be marred.
• Photocopies of CPR training verifications and official exam score reports
are acceptable.
Any information which may be submitted subsequent to the initial credential application is identified on the Credential Evaluation Request form; you are responsible for submission of any additional information.
Once COE OSS staff have evaluated all documentation, and verified (pending) eligibility, you will be notified by email of your status and whether you are responsible for submission of any additional information that was not otherwise available. You will be provided with a timeline on the recommendation status/date of your certification and may download that correspondence for resource and reference while pursuing employment.
Once all requirements have been verified as having been satisfied and the online recommendation has been submitted, you will be notified both by COE OSS staff and the CCTC of recommendation submission and receipt. Your correspondence from the CTC will direct you to a secure website to provide your remaining personal information, complete the responses to personal and professional fitness questions, and complete the payment portion of this process. Shortly thereafter, the CCTC will send you a payment confirmation number.
Providing there are no extenuating circumstances, you will receive confirmation from the CCTC that your credential has been granted and an additional email that will provide the details of your credential; this is the final notice that you will use for employment purposes. You will also be able to download documentation from the CCTC website (www.ctc.ca.gov) under “Look Up A Credential” as supporting documentation.
Students completing credential programs during the Spring 2008 Semester should file their applications for credential evaluation and recommendation with the College of Education Office of Student Services no later than 4:30 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2008 to assure review, resolution of any potential problems, and recommendation for certification prior to July 1, 2008. Application materials should be downloaded from the links listed below (click on the title of the credential for the appropriate application packet and instructions). Applications are evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis; those filing applications during the first weeks of the semester will receive an email confirmation of their application status much earlier than those who delay submitting applications until or after the February 21 filing date. Applications may be submitted after February 21 but will not receive priority processing. Any applications that do not include the specific materials requested on the application form will be returned without processing. If additional information is required, certification staff will communicate by email and identify a date by which the additional information should be submitted. If the additional materials are not provided by the specified time, the application will be cancelled. A subsequent application with the requested materials will be required at additional cost.
