- We were invited back to Michigan to present this program to Resource and Referral representatives from all over Michigan by the Detroit Department of Social Services. The program was featured in the Detroit Press and is currently given in about ten cities in Michigan. A Master's Degree Thesis out of the Psychology Department of The University of Michigan had positive findings on the effects of the program which are to be written up into a journal article in the future.
Child Development Training Consortium, Coordinator, 1985-1993
- Worked under a grant from the State Department of Education Child Development
Division to provide special classes for employees of State Funded Child
Development programs. The grant was approximately $18,000 per year (the
total for the eight years was approximately $144,000). As coordinator,
planned program procedures, scheduled (and in many cases created) classes,
hired instructors, administered budget, counseled students in the program
and represented Grossmont College to the Child Development Division in
Sacramento.
- Through this project many extras were available to the Child Development
Program. Special classes could be developed expanding our offerings to
students. Equipment purchased by this project and still in use in the CD
department include a computer, an electric typewriter, books, films, etc.
Foster Care Education Program, San Diego County Consortium (consisting
of Grossmont/Cuyamaca, San Diego, Southwestern and Mira Costa City College
Districts) Project Manager, 1985-present
- Regional Coordinator for Southern Region (consisting of Orange, San
Diego, Imperial, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties), 1987-96.
- This program is funded by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's
office at $54,375 a year (for a ten year total of approximately $550,000).
The first two years the program was housed at the San Diego Community College
District, but since then it has remained at Grossmont. The program offers
training to foster parents, social workers, and foster children. It requires
a great deal of community involvement with the Department of Social Services,
Foster Parent Associations, and many other child abuse agencies. As project
manager, I have been in charge of all grant writing, budget operations,
hiring personnel, and overseeing interactions among the various agencies
involved. Community Advisory Committee involvement is required and an active
committee meets quarterly.
Group Home Training Program, Project Manager, 1987-89
- This project was funded by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's
Office for $16,000 (for a total of approximately $32,000 for the two years)
to offer training for childcare staff in residential group homes.
Independent Living Skills Program, Project Manager, 1987-present
- This program is funded by the California Community College Foundation
for $30,000 per year (for a eight year total of approximately $240,000).
It is designed to offer training to foster parents, group home staff and
foster teens in Independent Living Skills. The same duties apply as Project
Manager above for the Foster Care Education Program.
Summer Independent Living Skills, 1988, Project Manager
- The County of San Diego granted $22,000 to have our program deliver
extra services in the training of ILS to teens. The same Project Manager
duties as above were involved.
In-Service Training Grant funded by the California Community Colleges
Chancellor's Office Economic Development section in the amount of $5,000
in June, 1992 which involved me working at Hillcrest Receiving Home and
developing curricula for Grossmont College classes.
ROP Group Home Training Program funded in 1990 by the local ROP program
provides training for childcare staff working in residential care facilities
for children. I wrote the proposal and oversee this program although another
part-time instructor teaches the classes. It has a budget of approximately
$12,000 per year and teaches 18 units of CD 195 a new Child Development
course created for the project.
Fund for Instructional Improvement Grant: A Model Child Develotment
Articulation Program Funded by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's
