Proximity

  What is proximity:
Proximity refers to the relationship that items develop when they are close together. Two items that are close, they appear to have a belonging to each other. Related items, like items, get grouped together. When items are physically far from each other, they do not appear to have a relationship with each other. Elements become visually disconnected from each other. Do not orphan items/objects.

  What Proximity Does:

  • It groups related items together
  • Makes page look smaller
  • Increases organization
  • Organizes information
  • Defines a beginning and ending

  What can be easily orphaned:

  1. Titles
  2. Subtitles
  3. Headings
  4. Subheadings
  5. Captions
  6. Text that accompanies a graphic
  7. Tables and charts
  8. Navigation
