Objective

Applying concepts of graphing by using the game of Battleship focusing in the area of the Bermuda Triangle.


Anticipatory Set



Ask students, "Have you ever sunk a battleship?"


Resources

Prepared game boards made out of cardboard and graph paper.

Guided Practice

  1. Review concepts of graphing on a X,Y coordinate system.
  2. Split class into pairs of students who will play against each other.
  3. Explain to students the basic rules of the game. Each player draws a circle around groups of cordinates to represent their various size ships. The object of the game is to sink your oppenents ships by calling out attack coordinates. Each player keeps track of their attack coordinates and their oppenents attack on them.
  4. Tell the students, "Watch out for flying objects!"
  5. Allow students the whole period to play the game.
