Objective

The students will practice creative writing.
The students will practice reading and comprehending the work of other students.

Lesson

  1. Students will be required to write a number 1 through 4 on the top left corner of a piece of notebook paper.
  2. The teacher will write on the board the following three prompts:

Radio tower operators knew something was terribly wrong when Flight 19 pilot, Lt.C.C. Taylor frantically radioed on a clear day, "We seem to be lost..."

When we found his body, it was evident...

The diver swam through the murky water only to see...

"Everything is wrong...strange...The compasses are going crazy...We can't be too sure of any direction, even the ocean doesn't look as it should..." The last words reported from Flight 19 were "Entering white water...We are completely lost." As a rescue team, we had to do something!

  3. The students will write the prompt that corresponds with the number that they chose.
  4. They will then have five minutes to write a continuation to the prompt.
  5. The teacher must strictly time the students while they free write.
  6. After five minutes, the students will pass their paper to the person on their right.
  7. The new owner of the story will continue the story from where the last person left off. Again, the student will have five minutes to write.
  8. Continue this pass-o-graph three more times, announcing on the final round that the students must bring their story to a close.
  9. Finally, the students will have an opportunity to read their story aloud.
