Introduction
Last week every body had to do a "What is a Family" essay. In
that essay you did a lot of research into what families are made of and
how they work. Today we are going to do a quick follow up lesson to all
the work you did last week.
The Task
We are going to write down all tthe components that make a family and then
rank them in order of importance.
Resources
The sources we will be using will be last weeks essays and summaries.
The Process
To accomplish this we will break into groups of 3-4 students per group.
You will get into your group and brainstorm for five minutes on the components
that make a family (you may use your summaries and essays for help). When
you are done brainstorming you will rank those components. A number 1 means
the component that you think is most important to making a family. The higher
the number the less important that component should be. When that is done
one person from your group will read the top ten list while another student
from your group writes them on the board. We will do this with all the groups,
and see what components are the most popular ones.
Learning Advice
Assign a leader to the group, a person who will read out your answer to
the class and quickly explain why your group chose that component. Also,
choose a person to write on the board, and a different person to write during
the brainstorming time. Remember if everybody has a task to do then no one
person will get stuck doing all the work.
Evaluation
This will be a group grade. The group will be graded on wheter or not your
group is following the above directions getting ready for the presentation.
Conclusion
Today we will brainstorm, put the components that make a family in rank
order, and present these rankings to the class. Finally the wole class will
compare their group notes, and discuss what we have learned over the last
week.
