Introduction

During the "Age of Exploration," courageous explorers risked their lives to venture into the unknown. These men threw caution into the wind and sailed unchartered waters in search of new trade routes and new lands. When they completed their missions, they linked worlds together. Thanks to these men, Europe and the new world would be linked together forever.


The Task

You will write a biography over an explorer of your choice. The textbook mentions various explorers who became famous during the "Age of Exploration." You will chronicle the important events of an explorer in a two-paged typed biography. A template has been provided to help you write your biography.


Resources

Use the search engines to find sources of information regarding your explorer on the internet. Here is list of possible resources that will help you on your way.


The Process

You will write a two-page biography about your explorer. Be sure to include all important information you find about your explorer.

  1. Each student will chose an explorer for your project.
  2. Find information regarding the explorer you have chosen.
  3. Each student must use four sources, including two from the world wide web. Some possible sources are listed in the resource section of the instructions.
  4. Write a biography about the life and accomplishments of your explorer.
  5. Create a bibliography citing the sources you used.
  6. Remember to cite all sources. Do not copy all the information directly from your sources. Put the information in your own words.

Your biography will be evaluated on five criteria:


Conclusion

In your biography, you will learn how European explorers linked two worlds together. These explorers ventured into the unknown to further discover the world around them. These men led to an increased knowledge of the world and brought different cultures together.
