Here's week-by-week guideline to follow.

Each of your projects is different, so individual schedules will vary. Use the guidelines that follow to gauge the amount of time you're devoting to the evaluation plan, instrument design and implementation/administration, data analysis, and report writing (drafts, reaction to feedback, revisions).

Phase 1: Plan your study
Weeks 1 through
3 



Week 1: Group meeting via Adobe Connect (formerly named Breeze): Monday, Jan 22 at 5:15 pm/Pacific

Week 1 outcomes:

  • Connect with your client (and sharing the abbreviated Sp 07 schedule); submitting (if you haven't already) the 1st Stage Evaluation Plan and minutes of your initial client meeting)
  • Work on the "real" evaluation plan
  • Browse (within Bb) through the 791A case studies (including your own)
  • Browse (within Bb) through evaluation plans other 791BC students have developed

Week 2 outcomes:

  • Begin individual meetings
  • Continue working on evaluation plan

Week 3 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Submit solid draft of evaluation plan (END of the week, via email)

Critical: February 7 is the LAST DAY to add/drop classes, apply for graduation, etc. Any changes to your program of study must have been filed/approved PRIOR to Feb 7.

Phase 2: Design tools and instruments  
Weeks 4 through 6

OPTIONAL WORKSHOP/Week 4 (date/time TBD): Creating tools (online, paper-based)--including surveys, rubrics, observation protocols, etc.

Week 4 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Work on drafts of all instruments -- especially important if your client has a formal approval process

Week 5 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Continue instrument development; submit Human Subjects protocolif warranted
  • Submit final (revised) evaluation plan for grading
  • Review data collection strategies with client

Week 6 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Test and finalize instruments

Phase 3: Actively collect data
Weeks 7 through 10

Week 7 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Begin data gathering

Week 8 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Continue data gathering
  • Participate in an informal how's it going chat (date/time TBD)

Week 9 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Continue data gathering

Week 10 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Close out data collection; transition to data analysis

NOTE: Spring Break is between weeks 9 and 10, beginning March 26

Week 10: Group meeting via Adobe Connect:Monday, April 2 at 5:15 pm/Pacific. We'll:

  • review the final report template and jobs aids on charts/graphs, how to report findings, etc.).
  • review data analysis options avaialble to you (SPSS, Analyse-it, and StatCrunch on the quantitative side; HyperResearch, Word, and FileMaker Pro for your qualitative data)
  • review practice data that you can "play with" --- to build your skills and confidence

Up to six examples final reports will be posted to Bb.
Log into Blackboard--and then our course site. Choose Communication and then Live Classrooms from the navigation bar. You'll see our session listed.

 

Phase 4: Analyze and interpret data
Weeks 11 and 12


OPTIONAL WORKSHOP/Week 11 (date/time TBD): Strategies for analyzing data (#1 of 2--focusing on the quantitative strategies)

OPTIONAL WORKSHOP/Week 12 (date/time TBD): Strategies for analyzing data (#2 of 2--focusing on qualitative strategies)

Week 11 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Work on data analyses---and ways to triangulate results drawn from from different tools, from different information sources, at different points in time, etc.

Week 12 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Work on data analyses--focusing in the interpretive end (the story your data are telling)
  • Share initial results with the client

Phase 5: Prepare final report
Weeks 13 through 16

OPTIONAL WORKSHOP/Week 14 (date/time TBD): Interpretive Writing

Weeks 15 and 16: Group meetings (formal project presentations) via Adobe Connect: May 7 and May 14 -- both at 5:15 pm/Pacific

Week 13 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Draft final report

Week 14 outcomes:

  • Meet individually
  • Draft final report; submit for review by the END of the week (in Word)
  • Meet with client/provide update

Week 15 outcomes:

  • Meet individually (focusing on draft report)

Week 16 outcomes:

  • Meet individually (focusing on the draft report and how to submit it to the client)
  • FINAL report due at the end of the week (pdf only)
