of Visual Displays
Concrete
Concrete

they represent, though the degree of detail may vary. Concrete visuals include:
- Pictures:
photographs, line drawings, shaded drawings, silhouettes, and icons.
- Diagrams-Spatial:
Maps such as physical, political, and special-purpose maps; and technical
drawings, such as architectural plans, elevations, cross sections, details
and the like are representational drawings that omit certain features in
order to highlight other features of the phenomenon depicted.
Abstract
Abstract
visuals do not look like the things they represent but are conceptually related
to them. They include:
- Diagrams-Temporal:
process charts, timelines, flow diagrams.
- Diagrams-Conceptual:
concept maps, organizational charts, mathematical formulae.
- Graphs:
numerical data, including line graphs, bar graphs, pie graphs, and so on.
- Tables:
row-by-column matrix presentation of verbal or numerical data, such as bus
schedules, price lists, sports scores, and comparison charts.
