One of the strengths of multimedia is that it offers learners more than one way to process new information. We almost always use visuals in conjunction with either text or sound, or both. On this screen, specify the text you intend to use with this visual. You'll have an opportunity to specify sound in the next step.

Our brains perceive and process text serially, sequentially, one word after another, while we tend to perceive pictures all at once, simultaneously apprehending the whole. Consequently, text is particularly good for precise expression, while pictures excel at showing relationships among elements. However you choose to describe the differences, text and pictures seem to complement one another when it comes to representing information.

Coordinate instructional and educational visuals with text in captions, labels, and body copy.

As usual, there's more information available below by placing your mouse over Caption, Labels, Referring to Visuals.

Specify the labels, captions, or body copy that you'd like to accompany the visual then select NEXT.
