Introduction
In today's ever changing world we are constantly reminded that cultures,
environments, and beliefs make each individual unique. One of the things
that changes from culture to culture is family life, and family structure.
Over the next week we will take a detailed look at families and we will
all come up with our own answer to the question: What is a Family?
The Task
Your task is to write what you believe a family to be and to explain how
you came to your definition of a family.
- You must create a one page summary of each source that you use.
- You must form an opinion that you will be able to defend with facts
and beliefs.
- You must get your sources from three different places
Resources
You must use at least five different sources, three of these must be from
a different area. You may use the world wide web, journals, newspaper article,
medical journals, and books on family life.
The Process
To accomplish the task, you must write one page summaries for each of your
sources, explaining what the article, interview, or journal entry says.
With each of these summaries you must form your own opinion of what a family
is. Write a five page paper explaining what you think a family is, make
sure to cite your sources.
Learning Advice
Places that you might want to start can include family trees, the theory
of evolution, genetic makeup of families, the purpose of families. If you
decide to interview people you might want to interview people from different
family sizes, and family cultures.
Evaluation
You will be graded on the following parts of your assignments.
Sources Used(15%)= Do you have 5 sources? Is the source relevant
to our subject? Are three of the sources unique?
Summaries(25%)= Are the summaries one page long? Are the main points
of the article summarized?
5 page essay(60%)= Is the question "What is a Family" answered?
Is the answer clear? Do you have facts to support your answer? Do you produce
a strong case for your answer?
Conclusion
In one week you will give me 5 one page summaries, 1 five page essay with
facts supporting your belief.
