Introduction
Who will you be in the future? Are you going to be a neurosurgeon or become an ice cream man/woman? Are you going to make big bucks and live in a mansion? Or do you prefer more humble digs? Will you discover a cure for cancer? Design a car that runs on water? What will your contribution to the future be? Make a plan and make it happen!
The Task
By the end of this week you will have learned about resumes and their importance in life. In class you will be:
- writing a resume that represents your current accomplishments
- writing a resume that represents your future accomplishments
- discussing future career possibilities with a counselor
- introduced to the culminating interdisciplinary project

- Career counselor
- Sample resumes
- The 1996 What Color Is Your Parachute? which is a book about finding the right career for you with sample resumes
- Computers for word processing
Week 4 Plans

Day 1
- Summary of the last three weeks; overview of key concepts and ideas
- Discussion of what kind of life they would like to have in the future
- Consider contributions they can make to society
- Consider what kind of lifestyle they would like to have
- Introduction to future careers
- Discussion with career counselor about different careers
- What looks good on your resume - internships, volunteer work, clubs, etc.
Day 2
- Introduction to resumes
- Show examples of different resumes
- Write current resumes
Day 3
- Peer edit current resumes
- Discussion of where you are now & where you would like to be
- First drafts of future resumes
- This resume would be a projection of what you have accomplished after you finished education and are about to enter the workforce
Day 4
- Revise and word process resumes
Day 5
- Wrap up last 4 weeks
- Introduction to final interdisciplinary project
- A culmination of everything you have learned about responsibility in Math, Social Studies, and English.

For extra credit you can send out resumes to actual employers with a letter asking for feedback about your resume. "Would you hire me? Why/why not?"
Evaluation
You will be evaluated on your participation in discussions and your resumes. Your resumes will be evaluated on these characteristics:
- professional appearance
- grammar
- content
- uniqueness
- appropriate to job/career wanted
Conclusion
By the end of this week you should have the resume for your future career. Continue updating your current resume until it matches your ideal resume. Also consider writing several resumes for different career options as your interests grow.
