The following rubric will be used to assess your special topic research report.

Introducing the idea

No introductory section. Little implicit or explicit reference is made to the topic that is to be examined.

Readers are aware of the overall problem, challenge, or topic that is to be examined.

The topic is clearly introduced, and the contents of the paper are outlined and explained.

Up to 10 points

Flow of ideas

The report is poorly organized, with little or no ordering of sections or subtopics .

There is a basic organization, but not all sections or paragraphs follow in logical order.

The report is logically organized. Transitions tie adjacent sections and paragraphs together.

Up to 20 points

Coverage of content 

Major sections of pertinent content have been omitted. Web links that do exist are gratuitous.

All major sections of the pertinent content appear to be referred to, but some are not covered in as much depth as needed for clarity. A few links are made to relevant web material.

Important content is covered in depth without redundancy. Sources are cited for important claims. Significance is unquestionable. Good links to relevant material are shown.

Clarity of writing

Paper is difficult to read and the meaning is often unclear. Misspelled words, incorrect grammar, and improper punctuation are evident.

Writing is mostly clear, with occasional unnecessary words or grammar errors. Meaning is sometimes hidden. Paragraph or sentence structure is repetitive.

Writing is crisp, clear, and succinct. The writer incorporates a variety of sentence styles appropriately.

Conclusion

There is no indication the author tried to synthesize the information or make a conclusion based on the literature under review.

The author provides concluding remarks that show an analysis of ideas occurred, but some important points are skipped or some of the conclusions given are not supported in the body of the report.

The author was able to make succinct and precise conclusions based on the review. Conclusions are supported in the body of the report.

Citations/ References: Proper APA format

Citations for statements included in the report were not present. References are missing missing or extremely limited, with no use of APA format.

Most of the important points are cited, and references are included. There are formatting errors in references.
