Module 10: Assessing Your School's Needs
This whole process of assessing specific needs and converting them into actionable objectives is a complex one, particularly as you attempt to get a variety of viewpoints and serve a wide range of needs.
One of the authors of this course, Dr. Bob Hoffman, along with his colleague, Dr. Allison Rossett, a nationally recognized authority in needs assessment, have co-authored a CD-ROM tool to assist school technology leaders in the technology needs assessment and technology use plan development process. It's called the School Technology Planner and is available from the publisher, Allyn & Bacon.
The School Technology Planner (STP) guides administrators, teachers, and other technology leaders as they take the technology "pulse" of their school, suggests questions to use when talking with a variety of stakeholders, and provides templates for needs assessment surveys and for the technology use plan itself.
If you're near the SDSU campus, you can stop into the Instructional Meda Lab (North Education 275) and review or use a copy of the STP. You can also find information about the STP at Allyn & Bacon's web site. Click on "catalog" and search for "STP."
