Module 1: Overview of Technology in Education
Although school leaders need to be somewhat familiar with technology, more important is their knowledge of the issues surrounding how technology can make a difference in schools, and their ability in leadership of a faculty to incorporate appropriate uses of technology. Two readings that will help you grasp an understanding of these topics include:
- Cuban, L. (1994). Computers meet classroom: Who wins? The Educational Digest, March. [Article 2 in "Computers in Education" edited by Hirschbuhl and Bishop].
- Kearsley, G, & Lynch, W. (1994). Educational technology leadership in the age of technology: The new skills. [Chapter 1 in "Educational Technology Leadership Perspectives" edited by Kearsley and Lynch].
For a recent commentary on the dangers of embracing technology in the classroom too quickly, you may want to optionally take a look at "The Computer Delusion" by Todd Oppenheimer, published in the July, 1997, issue of the Atlantic Monthly.
