Education

Background

I was born in Laredo, Texas and moved to Los Angeles after graduation from high school. I relieved my AA degree from Glendale College and then transferred to Long Beach. I graduated from Long Beach in 1989. I worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District for four years. I moved to San Diego in 1993.

I currently work for the Chula Vista School District as a first grade bilingual school teacher. I am almost done with my masters program. My degree will be in curriculum and instruction.

Areas of Focus; Research/Project Interests

I love to teach. I really enjoy seeing the growth the first graders go through over the course of the year. My current goal right now is to do the best job possible teaching Spanish to our non Spanish speakers in our school. Our school just started the dual language program in which students in the bilingual Spanish Program receive the English Language Development from the English only speaking teachers and the English only speaking students receive Spanish Language Development from the bilingual teachers. It has been harder than I thought. The students are very excited.

Other Interesting Facts

I like getting involved in my school community and I am currently a member of the PTA, School Site Council, Union Rep., as well as other responsibilities in my school. I love football and keep up with the latest scores and news especially the Dallas Cowboys. I enjoy fishing and camping.
