596 Visitor's Page

Thank's for taking the time to stop in at our Visitor's Page.

There are two sections to this page.

  1. To introduce you to our goal in creating this course.
  2. To request clearance to view Sessions 2 and 3, or the entire course.

Our Goal

The idea for this course grew out of my frustration at helping pre-service teachers become competent in using technologies to help the teaching and learning process, only to become stymied in their position due to a general lack of understanding by their school administrator. I was surprised when I found that although California required teachers to know how to use technologies, there was no similar requirement for administrators.

In 1996 I met with a variety of faculty who teach administration courses at San Diego State University (SDSU), and together we put together a proposal to introduce a new course for administrators at SDSU. In the summer of 1997, I was the principal author of a grant, funded by the CSU Chancellor's office, to create a course to be delivered via the Internet, and in fall of 1997, the course became a reality.

As with any course, this one will go through stages of evolution. Once we complete the 16 modules, we will go back through to add art work to each page, ensure consistency in format, and look for errors.

We are also working with a graduate student in the Department of Educational Technology to conduct a formative evaluation of each of our Sessions. Those findings will be included in our next iteration. At the present time, it looks like this course will be offered again in the fall of 1998, but it may be available in the spring of 1998 if enough interest is shown.

Clearance to view Sessions 2 and 3

At the present time, visitors are able to look through our introductory pages and the first of 16 sessions. If the ideas here intrigue you, you may be interested in either asking for permission to look at Sessions 2 and 3, or signing up for the entire course.

Because the course has been established for distance delivery, you will be able to take it from anywhere you can access this screen. In the fall of 1997 we have students taking this course from Togo, Africa; Wellington, New Zealand; and Colorado (as well as 15 students in San Diego).

To receive the password to Sessions 2 and 3, please send me an email (dritchie@mail.sdsu.edu). In the subject header write "596 Visitor", and in the text area please include:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Home address
  • Phone
  • Current occupation

If you are interested in taking the entire course for graduate credit at SDSU, please include this request in your message as well and we can forward you additional information.
