Instructional Objective

The learners will be able to identify various hemodynamic pressures and corresponding conditions.

Learners

The game is designed for respiratory therapy students, associate degree level, who are learning the hemodynamics of cardiopulmonary physiology as applied to critical care.

Object of Game

The players will be able to identify normal and abnormal hemodynamic pressures and corresponding conditions. The pressures relate to four disease states: Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism (PE), and lung collapse. The player who answers most questions correctly and moves around the board fastest wins the game.

Time Required

The game is for 2 to 4 players. Play takes about 30-45 minutes.

Preparation Place the Q & A and Consequence cards face down in the printed spaces on the board. Players draw colored straws (toothpicks) that determine their condition for the game. Each color represents a specific condition: ARDS (red), pulmonary edema (blue), PE (green), and lung collapse (yellow). The players select a condition, and then place the corresponding game piece in the Start space. Throw the die to decide which player goes first. Players move in turn around the board and starting with the player who rolls the highest number.

The Game

The first player rolls the die and moves the indicated number of spaces. The player to the right picks a Q & A and Consequence card, and then reads the fact and asks the question. The player answers the question based on the specific condition. The reader selects and reads the appropriate consequence that determines the move depending on whether the player answered correctly or not. The reader returns the cards to the bottom of the pile. The player moves the indicated number of spaces. A player may move back only as far as the Start space. The next player rolls the die. Play continues in rotation until one player reaches the Finish space.
