Each course includes an online component for discussions and questions between class sessions as well as an extensive list of readings and resources for later use. Kick start your professional development with these fun and challenging courses.

Up to six units of EDTEC 700 may be applied to a Masters degree in Educational Technology.

Current matriculated SDSU students can register via the web portal. Be aware of the add/drop deadlines as you will not be allowed to register for any class after the deadline. Not taking classes now at SDSU? No problem. Come to the first class and register through Open University (campus students only) Cost for each class through Open University is currently $197 (fees subject to change). If interested in online sections, go to the College of Extended Studies for registration information.

Attendance requirements: Students will be expected to participate in all scheduled class hours to receive full credit. Students will need a cable or DSL internet connection. In addition, a headset/mic is strongly recommended. All times listed below are Pacific (Daylight Savings).

EDTEC 700 Section 1: Using Problem-Based Learning to Enhance Decision-Making Skills
2 Saturdays: Feb. 9 & Feb. 23. 8:30am to 4:30pm.
This class will be offered on campus only.
Room: North Educaton 271

What are the thinking skills that underlie effective decision-making? How can you create scenarios that require and develop that kind of thinking? How do you guide and evaluate learner performance in PBL environments? The techniques in this course are applicable to learners from elementary grades through grad school and corporate training.

EDTEC 700 Section 2: Machinima for Learning
2 Saturdays: April 12 and April 26. 8:30am to 4:30pm.
This class will be offered on campus only. Room: North Education 271

Using games (e.g., The Sims 2, World of Warcraft) and virtual environments (e.g. Second Life) to create animated movies.  The course covers machinima as a tool for self-expression for middle and high school students, as a method for creating short instructional cartoons, and as a way to prototype a video production. Software purchase required.

EDTEC 700 Section 1: Surveys: Design and Use
This class will be offered on distance only.
Dates: Feb. 2 and Feb. 16. See class website for days and times.

Surveys allow us to capture critical data (from staff, managers, clients/customers, and more) that can improve organizational performance. Learn the ins and outs of good survey design (whether delivered traditionally or online), basic data analysis techniques, and strategies for writing informative but reader-friendly reports that improve the decisions you and your colleagues make as well as the actions you and your colleagues take.
