Faculty of the Association for African American Educators Academy for Professional Development: Effectively Teaching African American Students
The Association of African American Educators (AAAE), in conjunction with San Diego State University's College of Education and College of Extended Studies, developed an academy in 2003 to improve classroom teacher effectiveness with African American students.
Collaborative Scholar-College Bound San Diego
College Bound San Diego, "a program committed to serving students and families in the San Diego area in offering a unique approach to college counseling, development of study, life and success skills, parental involvement, cultural awareness and exposure to college."(College Bound, http://www.geocities.com/jcwcpa2001/collegebound.html ). The program founders consist of members from the Concerned Parents Alliance (CPA), Incorporated of Poway Unified School District.
Chair of Minority Recruitment and Retention Task Force for the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Presidential Award
The task force is a special presidential initiative designed to increase minority membership in the national school psychology association.
Consultations
Graduate Consultant, Department of School Psychology, Indiana State University-Terre Haute, Indiana
Provided consultation services as a graduate consultant to elementary school teachers. The practicum experience involved observing students in the classroom setting and providing strategies and interventions for teachers.
Spousal Abuse Educator, Spousal Abuse and Family Education (SAFE), Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Court-Norfolk, Virginia Advocated for the rights of abused women and children in the Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Court System. Also assisted abused women in obtaining protection and custody orders. Provided education for batterers, victims of abuse, and the court system on the effects of spousal abuse on children and families. One-to-one counseling was also provided for women and children in crises.
