Dr. Cohn received her B.A. from University of Kansas, M.P.A. from California State University Long Beach and her Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Planning, and Administration from University of Southern California. She worked as a social worker, teacher, and school principal prior to her career in higher education. Before coming to SDSU as chair and professor in the Department of Educational Leadership in 2006, she served as the Associate Vice President for Academic Personnel at California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Cohn also provided leadership for eight years as the Associate Dean and Professor in the College of Education on the Long Beach campus. In addition she has served as professor of Educational Leadership at Cal State Los Angeles, CSU San Bernardino, and Carlow College in Pennsylvania.
She recently co-edited with Houck and C. Cohn a book entitled Partnering to Lead Educational Renewal: High Quality Teachers, High Quality Schools. This book also includes several chapters that she co-authored. Her areas of expertise include school, community college and university partnerships; the principalship; mentoring of aspiring school leaders; and women in educational leadership.
