Educational technology is the application of research, learning theory, emergent technologies, and child and adult psychology to solving instructional and performance problems.
The Educational Technology program at SDSU includes "soft technology": techniques for identifying educational problems and solving them in a way that uses what we know about how people learn. The SDSU Masters program also provides hands-on experience with "hard technology", preparing its graduates to use exciting new learning technologies.
The program emphasis is on real world experiences. Approximately 2 years are spent actually designing and developing tangible solutions to field-based problems. An extensive portfolio is developed and the effectiveness of instructional strategies and products evaluated.
