Creating Tables

I. Using the Insert Table Button

To create a table using the Insert Table button, follow these steps:
  1. Move the insertion point to where you want the table in the document.
  2. Click the Insert Table button and drag towards the right.

When you click the button, a grid of rows and columns that looks like a miniature table appears. As long as you hold the mouse button, you can move the pointer within the grid to select the size of the table you want to create. If you move the pointer beyond the right or lower boarders, the grid expands.

II. Using Menu Commands

To insert a table in a document, follow these steps:
  1. Position the insertion where you want the top-left corner of the table.
  2. Open the Table menu and choose the Insert Table command. The insert Table dialog box appear as shown below.
  3. Select or type the number of columns you want in the Number of Columns text box.
  4. If you know the number of rows you need, select or type the number of rows in the number of Rows text box.
  5. If you are unsure of the numbers, do not worry. You easily can add rows and columns to the end of a table or in the middle of the table.

  6. If you know how wide you want all columns, adjust the column Width box.
  7. You easily can change the column width if you are unsure of the column width or later want to adjust the table.

  8. Click OK.

III. Using the Table Wizard

To create a Table using the Table Wizard, follow these steps:
  1. Position the insertion point where you want the top-left corner of the table.
  2. Open the Table menu and choose the Insert Table Command.
  3. Click the Wizard button.
  4. Select the table layout style from the Wizard windows shown below and then click the button.
  5. Select the type of column headings from the window shown below and then click the Next button. Another dialog box appear, presenting options for repeating heading on each page. Choose Left, Center, or Right alignment and click the Next button.
  6. Select the type of row headings from the window shown below and then click the next button. Another dialog box appears, presenting options for row headings on each page. Choose Left, Center, or Right alignment and click the Next button.
  7. Select the type of numeric or text alignment you want for the table contents as shown below and then click the Next button. From the dialog box that appears, select the type of data contained in the most cells and click Next.
  8. Select the Table orientation as shown below and then clcik the Next button.
  9. In the final Wizard window, select whether you want to see a Help window that will guide you as you create the table; then click the Finish button.
  10. Words display the first window of the Table AutoFormat. If you do not want to use AutoFormat to format the table, click cancel.
