Image that appears on your computer screen when using DeskScanII
- Place your picture face down in far right corner of the scanner.
- Indicate the "type" of your original image (use Color Photograph for snapshots or other glossy pictures from books or magazines).
- Choose the "path," or output resolution (since these images will be used in Director or on the World Wide Web, choose "Screen" -- 72dpi for display on computer screens).
- Click on the Preview button in the lower left corner of the screen. The scanner will perform a preliminary, low resolution scan for editing purposes.
- Click the "Zoom" button to enlarge the area selected by the dotted lines ("marching ants").
- Use the cursor to select the portion of the image you wish to use. If you move the cursor across the selection lines, it will change to either a four-edged arrow or a double-edged arrow. Use either of these to crop the picture and select the area you wish to scan.
- Click on the Yin Yang symbol between the Brightness and Contrast sliders.
- Use the "Scaling" slider and right and left arrow buttons to determine the size of the final image. Notice that the finished size is indicated just below the slider. Since you're scanning for the screen, you might want to use pixel units. If DeskScan is using some other units (inches, for example), use the "Custom/Image size..." menu and choose "Pixels" from the "Units" popup menu.
- Click the Final button.
- Save the scan to your disk: a) type in the file name, and b) select "Pict" from the "File Format" popup menu.
- Insert your disk. Click Desktop. Your disk should appear in the window to the left of the desktop button. Double click your disk icon or name in this window.
- Click Save.
This will produce a PICT file which can be opened with graphics applications like Adobe Photoshop, Aldus Superpaint, or Director.
