Young Jedi Knights: Diversity Alliance

By Alex Dodge

December 1998

This is a five book series. The five books are:

  1. Shards of Alderaan: A Jedi Knight's father, Boran Thul, disappears and they don't know why. The Young Jedi Knights fly to the Shards of Alderaan to get a piece of it for Leia's Birthday. On the way they are trapped in an asteroid by a bounty hunter!
  2. Diversity Alliance: They go looking for Boran Thul and this leads them to the ancient world of Kuar. They are attacked by giant spiders. They are saved by a character who is supposed to have been killed in a previous story.
  3. Delusions of Grandeur: Their search brings them to Mechis III. Where they see none other than the Bounty Hunter Droid IG-88.
  4. Jedi Bounty: I can't tell you about this book or it would give away the ending, this is where they start to figure it out the answer and they go to Ryoth.
  5. The Emperor's Plague: They went to a Imperil weapons deposit and Nolaa Tarkona gets killed.

Although there are many adventures in the series, The problem that stays throughout the whole series is that Raynar's father, Bornan Thul, disappears, leaving no trace.

This Young Jedi Knights series took place 15 something years after the Battle of Endor. The Battle of Endor was the battle in the 6th Star Wars movie where Darth Vader died. Hans and Lea marry and have children.

The main characters in the series are: Jacen and Jaina Solo (the 14 year old twins of Chief of State Princess Leia Solo and General Han Solo), Lowbacca the Wookiee (the hairy and tall nephew of Han Solo's friend Chewbacca), Tenel Ka (princess of the Royal house of the Hapes Cluster), Raynar Thul Son of Bornan Thul (an important trading fleet captain), Nolaa Tarkona (the Leader of a revolutionary new political movement called the Diversity Alliance, planning to destroy all of humanity) and Zekk (a friend of the twins who turned to the dark side but Jaina was able to turn him back just in time to make this series.) Jacen and Jaina. Jacen and Jaina help each other out in all the stories. Usually Zekk saves Jaina, but in this series Jaina saves Zekk in the final adventure told in Emperor's Plaque.

The places that they go to are:

I like this saga better than the other Star Wars books because the characters are more my age. The other Star Wars books are sometimes a little too complicated for me to completely understand. Also, since they are shorter I can read them in the time I have before I have to go to sleep. The Young Jedi Knights books each have around 230 pages while the regular Star Wars books have around 390 pages.
