Associate Professor, Educational Leadership, ARPE Department

Background

I grew up in several communities--Alabama, California, Washington, Arizona. My father was a minister and my mother an educator. It is easy to understand why I enjoy serving others in the education field. I have served in almost all educational roles and most recently retired from the Kyrene School District where I served as superintendent of schools. I am an international consultant in many arenas including quality leadership, systemic management and planning, change and motivation, curriculum design and delivery, staff appraisal, program evaluation, and program driven budgeting. One of my loves is helping districts through the Curriculum Managment Audit Centers: International of which I am a Vice President. I serve as lead trainer and lead auditor for the center.

Interests, Activities & Plans

Recently, I wrote of book on 18 quality premises which I called the Quality Fit Framework. I am enjoying working with district on applying quality premises to their system. I am currently working on a book which identifies over 100 paradigms in educational administration. I am thinking about calling the book "Process Paradigms Paralyzing Progress" I was invited to present my ideas at the last AASA annual convention. I have also developed a new approach to long-range planning called "Systemic Planning" and am working with Clovis School District to try out the ideas. Another interest of mine is working with the Sacramento City Unified School District on systemic management. I have had the fortune to work in many Texas schools and regional service centers on the curriculum management audit premises in attempting to align the written, taught, and assessed curriculums in the schools.

Other Interesting Things

I live on the beach at Mission Beach. I love walking the boardwalk and enjoying the ocean breeze. My dream is someday soon to wake up without an alarm clock, walk the beach to the Plunge, do my exercise, and then come back home and read the newspaper and sip some hot tea on the roof of our home. And then there is sports. I am a sports spectator nut. With my family we have Padre baseball season tickets, Charger footbal season tickets, Aztec football tickets, Aztec basketball tickts, and still own Phoenix Sun tickets and Arizona Cardinal tickets which we sell every year. I love to go to live performances of plays, musicals, and musical performers. I play the piano, at times, and enjoy singing.
