Phase 1: Philosophy of Education: Questions & Template: Readings: Evaluation Rubric
Questions & template
Your Armaiti Island Philosophy of Education statement will need to address the following questions:
Question #1: What is the ultimate purpose of education and schooling?
Question #2: What are 4-7 core beliefs that underlie your philosophy of education?
The set of readings will help you address the questions and conceptualize your team’s philosophy statement. Each of the six readings was chosen very carefully so read all of them thoroughly. Then, come together as a team to discuss the questions above and begin crafting your Philosophy of Education statement. If you also find other readings that are valuable to your team, feel free to use those in addition to the ones found here.
Remember, craft your one-page Philosophy of Education statement VERY CAREFULLY. It will be the launching pad for all the subsequent decisions your team makes about education on Armaiti Island in Phases #2 and #3.
Once you have fully discussed the readings as a team, you are ready to begin drafting your one-page Armaiti Island Philosophy of Education statement.
Your Armaiti Island Philosophy of Education is a statement of
1) the ultimate purpose of education and
2) underlying beliefs that support that purpose.
A template (Word doc) is provided for the team to use for the FINAL DRAFT of the Armaiti Island Philosophy of Education statement.
