Answer the following questions. Type your answers into the answer template (download and open file "ansgay" with any word processor or text editor).

  1. As you look over the statistics in Teen Suicide Fact Sheet and read about societal pressures on gays and lesbians in Suicide and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth, think about ways that you, as a teacher, might be able to address some of the issues discussed. Generate at least 4 concrete actions you might take to enable all children (gay and straight) to accept and better understand homosexuality.
  2. Read, A Mother Speaks Out. What were the different types of rejection and harassment Robbie experienced during his school years? From his very early years until his death, how did the world in which Robbie lived affect his concept of himself?
  3. In Gabi Clayton's site, this mother writes about her bisexual son. Within the site, click on BILL'S STORY: Portrait of a Son's Suicide. What experiences changed Bill as he grew from childhood to adolescence? How did Bill try to cope with the situations he faced? Did Bill show courage? How? What might a teacher have been able to do for Bill?
