Background
I was born and raised in San Diego. I am second generation Chinese. I have degrees in psychology, counseling and education. Besides California, I have lived in Hong Kong, Hawaii, and Taiwan. I have worked in Taiwan as a student advisor for the Fulbright Foundation and as an English teacher for three universities. After recieving my doctorate, I worked as an evaluator for a tobacco prevention project in San Diego middle schools. I have been a professor at San Diego State University since 1990. From 1991 to 1993 I was a visiting professor at the National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan.
Interests, Activities & Plans
I am interested in the social foundations of multicultural education from a domestic and international perspective. I am also interested in effective ways to educate future teachers to best teach in a culturally diverse classroom. Lastly, I am interested in the psychological factors involved in the education of our diverse students.
Other Interesting Things
I like low stress excercises such as bike riding, swimming, and walking. I am a novice piano and guitar player. I have learned to speak Mandarin Chinese as an adult.
