Here are the criteria for an excellent PIE submission. As you research and write, consider these factors. Once you've completed your work, use this checklist to reflect on what you've done and then to perfect it prior to submission.

Attributes:
Make sure you can answer 'YES' to the following.

  • Scope: I narrowed focus so that this paper contributes and does not just skim the surface.

  • Definition. The intervention is defined, clarified, and made vivid and interesting. Readers will learn why and how to use this intervention.

  • Literature: I reviewed the literature and summarized it in a way that is useful to the reader. Data was included to explain what works and doesn’t.

  • Applications and examples: I turned to at least one real live person who is using the intervention and included their experiences and wisdom in the paper.

  • Writing: The paper reads well and is carefully and purposefully organized.

  • Resources: I recognized sources and cite them appropriately using APA format.

  • Images: I included 1-3 meaningful visuals that make the article vivid and clear.

  • Professional presentation: The paper looks like it was prepared with care. I did professional work that reflects well on me. I'd be happy to share what I've written with my manager or a prospective employer.

  • Glad of it. Readers will learn something from reading my paper and be happy that they encountered it.
