David Kopay (1942- ) is a U.S. athlete and writer who played football for the San Francisco Forty-Niners, the Detroit Lions, the Washington Redskins, and the Green Bay Packers. Suffering from severe depression for over a decade, Kopay finally "came out of the closet" in 1975 and has written an autobiography about his life as a closeted professional athlete entitled The David Kopay Story.
