Ann Bancroft

Ann Bancroft (far right) is the first woman to have skied to both the North and South Poles. In 1993, Bancroft was one of the four team members of an all woman American expedition team to reach the South Pole. The team skied for 67 days over a grueling 700 mile trip across the ice and snow of Antartica facing winds of up to 50 mph and pulling 200-pound sleds in temperatures ranging from -5 to -50 degrees. This was the first all women team ever to reach the South Pole without the aid of dogsleds or motorized vehicles.
