George Cukor (1899-1983) was a U.S. film director whose films span over 50 years. Some of his better known pieces are The Women, The Philadelphia Story, and My Fair Lady for which he won an Oscar in 1964.

Audre Lourde (1934-1992) was an inspiring U.S. writer whose poetry and prose connects readers with the intimate experiences of real life. Lourde wrote of her own experience with cancer in The Cancer Journal (1980) where she documented her treatment as both an African-American and a lesbian. In Zami: A New Spelling of My Name she continues her discussions of the human condition. Lourde was a powerful and outspoken leader in the gay/lesbian community.

Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) was a Pulitzer Prize winning U.S. playwrite whose works included such masterpieces as The Glass Managerie, A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Suddenly Last Summer.
