Bayard Rustin

Bayard Rustin (1912-1987) was a U.S. civil rights activist who played a central role in organizing the huge 1963 civil rights March on Washington. Rustin remained active in human rights issues until his death, encouraging young homosexuals to stop hiding their sexual orientation, saying "Although it's going to make problems, those problems are not so dangerous as the problems of lying to yourself, to your friends, and missing many opportunities."
